A mother and a baby camel were lying around under a tree.
Then the baby camel asked, “Why do camels have humps?”
The mother camel considered this and said, “We are desert animals so we have the humps to store water so we can survive with very little water.”
The baby camel thought for a moment then said, “Ok…why are our legs long and our feet rounded?”
The mama replied, “They are meant for walking in the desert.”
The baby paused. After a beat, he asked, “Why are our eyelashes long? Sometimes they get in my way.”
The mama responded, “Those long thick eyelashes protect your eyes from the desert sand when it blows in the wind.”
The baby thought and thought. Then he said, “I see. So the hump is to store water when we are in the desert, the legs are for walking through the desert and these eye lashes protect my eyes from the desert then why are we in the Zoo?”
Learning: Skills and abilities are only useful if you are in the right place at the right time. Otherwise they go to waste.
For many of us, we acquired a lot of skills that did not complement our natural talents. I know how to program in a lot of different programming languages. All of those skills, although valuable, I have not exercised in years and really do not want to use. I was paid very well early in my career for those skills but I quickly became burned out. I have acquired a lot of skills in the area of training development and delivery that I love to use. I love them because they are complementing my talents. Successful people are those who like what they do.
Just because you are good at something or even like doing something does not mean it is a talent. There are many gifts you can give yourself that will add meaning to your life. These gifts are more valuable than anything money can buy. They will afford well-being, health and inner calm.
Learning something new keeps you younger. The joy of learning keeps you interested in life.
Empathy, this amazing gift broadens your world.
Tolerance is the bridge between the ‘ours’ and the ‘others’.
Meditation helps to relax and be more peaceful.
Excellence is becoming better and better in your pattern of work.
Smiling is something you should do more often. Being happy is a state of the mind.
Authenticity creates impact. Think outside the box. Sometimes, life offers you situations which not only demands hard work and perseverance but some creative thinking which saves the situation.
Storytelling just might be the most impactful leadership method yet. Storytelling, with a purpose, is key to being a good leader. And, in fact, it is a foundational aspect of progress—when we hear how others overcame problems or situations, ideas begin to fill our heads, inspiration fills our hearts, and actions begin to create the stories that will be shared tomorrow.
Achieve by taking action when it is necessary, not just when it is convenient. Forge new value from the situation as it is, not by waiting until circumstances are ideal. Create not just when the mood strikes you, but on a regular, consistent schedule. Get into a creative, productive state with your own efforts, not by yearning for perfect conditions.
Don’t choose to live with your problem. Just shake off your problems and stand on it and step up in life after learning from them. Every bad experience is a new learning. So get the positives out of it and work towards your goals. It’s not so much the receiving of the knowledge that is valuable, but rather the application of the knowledge that counts.
There is infinite power in positive energy and once that positive energy gets inside of you, you shall not only witness, but you will harness the power of infinite growth potential. When we are spending time comparing our own growth to that of another, we are wasting vital time that we could have used for developing our self. Self-growth isn’t an easy task for anyone, nor is change. In fact, our brains actually hate the idea of change, but in order to grow change is required.
Change is constant. You have to suffer to learn and grow. Sometimes, it takes someone, or something, to shake your tree so that you can feel the depths of its roots; to make you appreciate the wonder that is unconditional love.
Every day brings new challenges and new opportunities. The best course is to meet the challenges as they come, and make the best of opportunity when it’s here. Tomorrow is a mystery and still beyond our grasp, yet we have a magnificent amount of today that’s to be lived.
What can we learn from someone who always agrees with us? Not much. The varied opinions of others help us to grow in our own knowledge. And the true value of anything is in the effort that goes into getting it. The things that come easy are usually of little value, regardless of what the price tag says. It’s what you put into it that matters. The happiest people are not those who always get their way, but rather those who make the most of what they’ve been handed.
People who can accept that every season of our life will bring new leaves and branches, that we need those people and experiences to grow, but that ultimately it is our Roots that matter most, it is the Roots that keep the tree alive, and with the right nurturing, it is those Roots that will allow you to thrive. All of this growth will start within, it will start with you – in your career, in your personal life and in your relationships.
These are just a few helpful insights on growth, to assist you in your journey — no matter what aspect of life you wish to grow.
Let’s build your skills to complement your talents.
